Modern Country finds the jazz trombone ace leaning into Nashville songcraft, turning Ring of Fire, Funny How Time Slips Away and more into compact, swinging vignettes. The band keeps the pocket light: brushed kit, tictac bass, and a touch of twang framing that warm, centered horn. Arrangements never crowd the melody, and the little background vocals nod to the originals without pastiche. This LP pressing does the music a favour. The low end sits deeper and the space around the horn and guitar feels less pinched, so those slides and breathy attacks land naturally. Artwork reproduction is crisp, too.
